Amanda and Clay rent a beautiful vacation house in Long Island to get a break from their chaotic life in New York City and spend time with their two children. But when the owners of the house knock on their door late one night, Amanda and Clay's perfect vacation is shattered. The couple tells them a blackout has cut power in the city and the entire area -- leaving them with no phones, tv or internet.
Something doesn't seem right with their story. But Amanda and Clay have no way to find out if they're telling the truth. Did something really happen, or is this couple putting them in danger?
Why I Loved It: A literary gem, gorgeous writing and pitch-perfect characters. I enjoyed it so much I voted for this to be Best Book of the Year with Book of the Month Club.
