The Wife Upstairs by Rachel Hawkins
Jane escaped a shadowy past to move to Birmingham, Alabama, where she finds a job walking dogs for the town's richest families. Then she meets Eddie Rochester - a wealthy, handsome widower whose magnificent, well-known wife Bea drowned in a boating accident.
Jane quickly falls in love with Eddie and the life he could provide, and they begin a whirlwind courtship. But Bea seems to be everywhere, from the house they live in to the neighbors who were once her friends. As she tries to secure a stable future, Jane grapples with Eddie's past, and discovers secrets he'll do anything to hide.
Why I Loved It: This kept me reading late at night, and I didn't see the ending coming. It's dark in some ways, but the glitz and glam of the setting is alluring in others. A great read for the dreary gray days of winter.
